Islamabad - Summary for the appointment of new Director General Inter Services Intelligence could not be moved to the PM office on Friday, the last working day of the week, and matter is still hanging between Islamabad and Rawalpindi since 8th October when in major military reshuffle Corps Commander Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum was announced as DG ISI by ISPR.
Official sources at the PM office told The Nation that there was no progress on appointment of the New DG ISI as PM Imran Khan had not signed the official summary and matter had been gone to next week.
Official sources avoided the answer on status of the summary whether it was at the PM office or at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi.
Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa flew from Karachi to Rawalpindi on Friday after attending some high profile military events in Karachi.
There were reports of a possible meeting between army chief and Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday but till filing of this report there was no such meeting.
Sources maintained that Prime Minister Imran Khan had desired inclusion of the name of his choice in official summary for DG ISI position which is causing delay in signing the summary by the PM office.
Another reason for the delay is the desire by Prime Minister Imran Khan to interview the candidates mentioned in the official summary for DG ISI position.
Another source confirmed that Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted that incumbent DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hamid may continue for six months, however a message was conveyed to the PM office that maximum extension to DG ISI Lt-Gen Faiz could be till November this year.
Sources in Rawalpindi also insisted and conveyed the message that Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum would be the final choice of them for the post of DG ISI and there would be no review of the decision.
