Collaborators of all evil

Every soul in the country is convinced that judges who took a stand on the Steel Mill issue, Nawaz Sharif' exile, took suo-moto notice for the poor and fought against military tyranny, have to be restored. Still others would want them restored for having taken notice of the missing persons against powerful agency heads. Yes, the case for their restoration is strong but in my view, all judicial appointments, from senior civil judge to the Chief Justice, have to be reviewed. Generally speaking, our judges are callous collaborators of police and the powerful. They keep postponing hearing for years to allow another set of their collaborators, the lawyers, to make money for judges as well as themselves. They are less learned in law and more in bar politics. They are a ruthless and greedy lot. -M. SHAIKH, Islamabad, via e-mail, September 2.
