KARACHI - Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Marri has said that democracy is the only way for Pakistan to prosper and to stand among the comity of developed nations.    Democracy is also needed to end poverty, hunger and unemployment from the country. In her message on the occasion of International Democracy Day, she said that PPP leadership had always believed in democracy. Its founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and her daughter Benazir Bhutto also upheld the democratic norms and principles during their entire political careers, she added. She said both of them sacrificed their lives for the cause of strengthening of democratic institutions and despite all sorts of pressures, they never compromised on principles. Every Pakistani are well aware of their contribution in politics and role to improve the socio-economic condition of the masses, she opined. Marri said that Benazir envisaged the policy of national reconciliation and even came to Pakistan even knowing that her life was in danger. "She called for consensus on national issues so as to improve the economy of the country." The minister said that now they all had to work together for strengthening of democratic institutions and end of hunger, poverty and unemployment from the country. "On this day let us pledge that we will all work jointly to achieve this goal," she underlined.
