PPP representative Fauzia Wahab, in a talk show (10th Sep) on Waqt channel said, "Judges' issue is over. We should look ahead now". She must be conveying her party's viewpoint. The PPP stand seems to be that they have resolved the judges' issue by sending invitation to all deposed judges to get reinstated by taking a fresh oath. If that be so, one can only say that they have betrayed the will of the people and validated the unconstitutional step of 3rd Nov, 2007 by former President Musharraf. The restoration of deposed judges means restoring them to their respective offices as they were on 2nd November 2007 through an executive order rather than appointing them afresh by taking another oath. They are already under oath. An inquiry should be held to find how those 16 judges agreed to take a fresh oath to be judges of the respective courts with the original seniority. The PPP is proving the good old adage "might is right". The emotional outburst of Fauzia Wahab in the talk show, to the point of threatening to leave the studio, was a manifestation of the nasty having got into power. The whole nation had heard her leader, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, declare on all TV channels; "Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry is the legitimate Chief Justice of Pakistan and we shall hoist the Pakistan flag at his residence". -MUHAMMAD AZHAR KHWAJA, Lahore Cantt., via e-mail, September 11.
