ISLAMABAD (APP) Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Hamid Ali Mirza has summoned a high-level meeting of provincial governments functionaries on Thursday to evolve a mechanism to hold free, fair, impartial and transparent elections or by-elections. The invited officials include Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Secretary Interior all the four provincial Home ministers and secretaries, and the chief secretaries. Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiak Ahmad Khan and senior officers besides all the four provincial election commissioners will also attend the meeting, which will discuss ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections by adopting various measures including deployment of Rangers, Frontier Corps and Frontier Constabulary at each polling station. The meeting will also take up the matters concerning reported violation of code of conduct for election and weak response by the provincial govts to cooperate with the ECP and to redress complaints in accordance with law. Further, the ECP will raise the issue of reported bulk posting and transfers of civil servants after announcement of schedule of election, in spite of the directives of the CEC that no transfers/posting of any civil/police officers in the district where polls are to be held, should take place till the completion of election process. The meeting will also discuss the reported use of state resources for unfair advantage of a particular candidate for undue influence and announcement or inauguration of development projects during the period of election campaign. Moreover, the matters related to reported misuse of official position to influence result of election and paying visits to the area of constituency by the prime minister, chief ministers, ministers and other dignitaries shall also be deliberated.
