LAHORE - PML-N leaders from Mianwali district told the top party leadership here on Wednesday that NADRA was refusing Watan Cards to 80 per cent of the people without any justification. They lodged the complaint at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Nawaz Sharif at the Chief Ministers Secretariat. Watan Cards have been introduced to give financial assistance to people affected by the floods. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and provincial head of NADRA Col Iqbal Tiwana were also present at the meeting. It was decided at the participants that NADRAs attitude would not be allowed to hamper the process of rehabilitation of the flood victims. Nawaz Sharif said the flood-hit people could not be left at the mercy of a single department No department would be allowed to work for the political agenda of any political party, he said, without naming anyone but leaving no doubt that he was referring to the PPP. The former prime minister said in case the NADRA did not change its attitude, the PML-N would consider adopting alternative measures to help the people. He recalled that the PML-N had helped the flood-affected people quite effectively during the 1993 floods, when NADRA was not in existence. Chaudhry Nisar urged NADRA to review its attitude.
