GB Governor Shama Khalid passes away

ISLAMABAD (Agencies) Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Dr Shama Khalid died of cancer on Wednesday. She was 60. Shama Khalid was sworn in as the first governor of the Gilgit-Baltistan on March 23, 2010. She had been admitted to a hospital in Islamabad, where she had been fighting cancer for the past one and a half month. Dr Shama was a leading social worker who voluntarily worked in different parts of GB and served the cause of unity by setting up free summer medical camps every year. Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Mehdi Shah has confirmed the death of Dr Shama. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have expressed grief at the demise of Dr Shama Khalid.
