ICC to give extra time to Pak trio

LAHORE The International Cricket Council has accepted the appeal of the tainted trio and has asked them to file their appeal in detail against the charges of spot-fixing. The three players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, had submitted their appeals against the suspension by the ICC in spot-fixing case and are expected to attend the preliminary hearing with the ICC next month. The three are being investigated by police in Britain. A first ICC hearing into the suspension is expected to take place in late October, said Pakistan Cricket Boards legal adviser Tafazzul Rizvi. Meanwhile, a review of the ICCs anti-corruption measures is to be carried out after a call from the 10 Test-playing nations. The ICCs chief executives committee (CEC) says a wide-ranging and possibly independent review of the current measures is needed. ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: 'It is not enough that the ICC is regarded by other sporting organisations as a leader in the battle against corruption in sport. We must continue to assess and, where necessary, improve our processes. The recent allegations have reminded everyone of the need to remain vigilant and to ensure public confidence in our sport, he said.
