The government withdrew on Thursday its notification for the appointment of Adnan Khawaja as Director General Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC), report said. Sources said the notification was taken back on the directives of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. Khawaja was appointed as Managing Director OGDCL by the Prime Minister. However, the Supreme Court of Pakistan took a suo moto notice of his hiring which prompted the ruling quarters to back down in his appointment before hearing of the case in the apex court. Gilani had put at risk the future of one of the most treasured government owned corporations, OGDC, by handing it over to one of his tainted jail-mate cronies, analysts said. They said Khawajas only qualification was he had developed close association with PM Gilani when both were behind the bars on corruption charges.
