Woman killed for 'honour'

LAHORE - A 38-year-old wom-en, mother of five, was strangulated by her son and brother over alleged illicit relations with the neighbour in the wee hours on Wednesday, Badamgi Bagh police said. The deceased was identified as Nasreen Bibi, resident of Main Bazaar, Street No-8 near Haneef Park. Police investigators said that one Aslam, a security guard in factory located in Sialkot, migrated from Bahal-walpur to Lahore a few years back and started residing near Haneef Park in a rented house. Sources close to the investigators believed the woman had developed illicit relations with someone in the same locality on which Aslam, her husband, often rebuked her doing so but to no avail. A neighbour, requesting not to be named, said that Aslam stayed in Sialkot and she along with her children was free to do according to her will. He, however, denied any such relations with anyone and said that he never observed the woman visiting her neighbour. Police said that the accused identified as Arshad, 18, son of the deceased, and his maternal uncle Riaz quarrelled with Nasreen over the same issue and hurled life threats to her advising to restrain visiting the neighbour but reportedly, the woman flatly refused doing so. Arshad along with Riaz overpowered the woman at about 2:15am on Wednesday when she was sleeping and strangled her, investigators said. After committing the crime, both of the accused approached police station and offered their self-arrest besides confessing the act of crime. According to an officer, who visited the crime scene, the woman suffered multiple wounds on her neck, shoulder and on other parts of the body. Police after being informed reached the crime scene and shifted the body to the City morgue for autopsy, which later was handed over to her paternal heirs. Police have also registered a murder case under section 302 of PPC against both criminals on the statement of the deceaseds father. Further investigations were underway.
