KARACHI – As many as five people were gunned down in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis on Saturday.

In the first incident, two bystanders were killed and two policemen wounded when an exchange of fire between two rival ethnic groups took place in Esa Nagri area. The victims were identified as Nasir Masih and Rafi Bhatti.

DSP Nasir Lohdi, when contacted, said the trade of fire was continuing when a police party rushed to the area. He added that the gunmen also opened fire at the police mobile. The two injured policemen, Zafar and George Bhatti, were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors termed Zafar’s condition critical.

Lohdi further said that the cause of the clash could not be ascertained. A case has been registered against the two parties, however. Body of a young man was recovered from an apartment in Moosa Colony. Locals complained to police that putrefying smell was coming out of the locked apartment. And when a police team got inside the apartment, they found a three-day old body, which was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The victim was identified as Kamran Rizvi, 32, a resident of Gulistan-e-Juhar. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. Police officials suspected that the victim’s friend, namely Adeeb, owner of the flat, was behind the killing.

Separately, a man was mowed down in Machar Colony area. According to police officials, Saleem Mehsud, 45, was shot dead over personal enmity by one Murad Khan, who was later arrested from Sohrab Goth bus stop. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later handed over to the heirs. Police officials said that Khan killed Mehsud to avenge the killings of his two brothers in Waziristan two years ago.

Another body, riddled with bullets, was found near Machar Colony quarters.

The victim was identified as Faizullah Khan 32. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for postmortem. Police officials suspected that he might have been killed over personal enmity by one of his relatives, Ghulam Naseer Khan. A murder case has been against him.
