ISLAMABAD - Despite the issuance of strict reminders by the Establishment Division to complete degree verification process of federal government employees including babus, the process has been pending for the last one year.

The process may conclude by the end of this year (2012), as concerned departments have geared up pace after receiving reminders from the Establishment Division to complete it as early as possible, sources in the Cabinet Division shared with TheNation.

The degree verification of federal employees (BS-17 & above), targeting thousands of staff members, was originally to be completed in August 2011, but dates had been revising for last one year.  It would not be out of place to mention here that the process of verification of certificates was initially given 60 days for the exercise, and later with the approval of former Prime Minister (PM) Yousuf Raza Gilani, it was extended for another 90 days.

The revised date for the degree verification of the federal government employees was 8 August 2011, as according to the announcement the verification of degrees of approximately 18,869 federal government officers (BS-17 and above) and more than 64,000 officers of autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporation etc would be carried out. As per the official announcement, it was directed that educational certificates of the employees working in all the federal government institution might verify authenticity by the respective of institution.

When contacted, a senior cabinet division official said the process has gained momentum, as it was a bit slow due to certain issues including devolution process. To a question, he said that no degree has been found fake as yet and verification process is underway with full pace.  It is also relevant to mention here that a question on this subject was also asked in the Lower House, and it was informed by Minister In-charge of the Establishment division that if any fake degree case was reported or come to the notice of the concerned ministry, necessary action would be taken as per rules.

Sources said that a large number of FG employees had even not submitted their certificates in concerned departments before receiving reminders from concerned department.
