Ayyan escapes indictment for 16th time

rawalpindi - Supermodel Ayyan Ali has not been indicted in the currency smuggling case for the sixteenth time and the hearing of the case was adjourned till September 28.
Ayyan appeared before the customs, anti-smuggling and taxation court yesterday for the fourth time after being released on bail in the case. The court deferred hearing of the case and ordered customs investigators to present the copies of verdict of Lahore High Court (LHC).
Earlier, the customs authorities told the court the charge sheet against the accused model could not be presented because the matter is sub judice at the high court. They said the copies of Lahore High Court’s decision have not been received yet.
The accused model appeared before the court along with her lawyer Sardar Latif Khan Khosa. Arguing before the court, Khosa said the customs investigators are not probing the matter on merit and have declared two witnesses as accused. He said that he moved a writ petition with LHC Rawalpindi bench against the act of customs and the apex court had laid down its verdict.
The court, after conclusion of Khosa’s arguments, ordered the customs prosecutor to present the copies of the LHC verdict before the court and postponed hearing till September 28. The court also fixed the date of September 28 for hearing a fresh application filed by customs authorities to register a fresh money laundering case against the model.
Earlier, Ayyan Ali reached the court premises amid tight security. She appeared with a new hair colour and was seen wearing sunglasses.
