The Hobbit actor Manu Bennett was arrested after he allegedly punched a man during a party in San Antonio, Texas.

The New Zealand-born actor was in town for the Alamo City Comic Con and attended an after party at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where the incident reportedly occurred around 4.30am. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Bennett became embroiled in a spat with a 29-year-old man, but it is unclear as to why he allegedly punched him in the face. Bennett, who played Azog in The Hobbit trilogy, was taken in to custody and charged with assault causing bodily injury. According to a records search with the Bexar County Magistrate’s Office, Bennett is charged with assault causing bodily injury. Booking records for Bennett indicate he was taken into custody early Sunday, following a physical altercation.

A spokesperson for SAPD also said the original call came out as an “assault in progress” at the Grand Hyatt hotel downtown. Bennett was held on $1,600 bond. Bexar County Magistrate’s Office records show Bennett was released from jail around 1 p.m. Sunday. The San Antonio Police Department said more details on Bennett’s arrest are not available at this time. KENS 5 will continue to post updates to this story as they become available.
