LAHORE - The PPP thinks that Prime Minister’s Kissan Package has come as a result of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s recent speech at a workers convention in which he declared total solidarity with farmers’ community.

Bilawal made it clear that the PPP would practically join farmers’ struggle till the acceptance of their demands, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo in a statement issued Yesterday.

On the other hand, the PPP has termed it a relief which is too little and too late when seen in the background of farmers’ community going into losses since the last four crops.

Wattoo demanded withdrawal of GST on agriculture machinery and the agriculture produce, adding that support price of cotton, rice, potatoes and sugarcane be fixed without delay ensuring good returns to the farmers. These cosmetic measures, he said, will be deemed as rubbing salt on the wounds of the farmers, he maintained.

He also rejected the electricity rates @ of Rs. 10.35 per unit for agricultural tube wells demanding flat rates should fixed instead. He reminded that the PPP’s previous government had notified electricity rates for tube wells @ of Rs 8 per unit.

Wattoo pointed out that agriculture was the backbone of the country’s economy but present government had crippled this sector.
