ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has admitted a petition filed by PML-N ex-senator, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, seeking directives for the acceptance of resignations by  MQM law-makers.

A three-member court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali meanwhile issued notices to 97 persons including the Prime Minister, opposition leader in National Assembly, chairman Senate, Chief Minister Sindh, MQM law-makers, election commission and others and sought replies from them.

The petitioner told the court that the MQM lawmakers have resigned from the seats of National Assembly, Senate and Sindh Assembly, therefore, their return to assemblies was illegal and unconstitutional. “MQM parliamentarians have repeatedly said that they have resigned from their seats and their resignations should be accepted,” he has contended in the petition.

“Therefore, orders should be issued to the respondents to accept their petitions,” he requested the court.

The hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
