Two strong earthquakes in eastern Afghanistan have killed at least 40 people and left hundreds others homeless, media reports say. The quakes hit the district of Khogyani in Nangarhar province near the Pak border. Media reports said from that according to initial reports some 40 people were killed and 60 wounded in pre-dawn quakes. More than 200 homes have been destroyed in four villages in the area badly hit by the tremors. The first tremor was recorded a 5.5 magnitude quake around 2 am, and the second a 5.1 magnitude aftershock two hours later.
