LAHORE - The City District Government Lahore has installed six ticketing machines to launch meter-parking system at The Mall. However, the state of art machines are yet to start functioning. Each machine will cater 60 vehicles. The machines have been installed at a distance of 30 metres from each other. The high-tech system will be implemented in two phases. During the first phase, the system will be launched from Shahdin Manzil to Masjid-i-Shuhada, while the second phase would cover Panorama Centre, High Court Road and Shahrah-e-Aiwan-e-Iqbal. The process of lane marking has already been completed. The lane marking will streamline parking spaces for 320 cars. The sophisticated ticketing system has already been operating at the Liberty Market over the last four months. The authorities concerned have fixed the parking rates for different time durations. A parking ticket of Rs 10 has been approved for first hour while Rs 5 will be charged after each next hour. For the whole day, a ticket of Rs 50 would be issued. A ticket of Rs 200 has also been fixed as the parking fee for a whole week. Local traders and shopkeepers would have to pay Rs 20 per day for the service. In case of a violation, Rs 50 to Rs 500 will be charged as a fine. On the other hand, motorcycles are exempted from computerised parking fee.
