LAHORE - A discussion on Nizam-e-Adl regulation in Sawat was held at the Hameed Nizami Hall here on Thursday with Ehsan Wain, Secretary General ANP, Raja Raiz MPA of PPP, Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi, Allama Zubair Ahmad Zahir, Manzoor Gillani, leader Estaklal party and Engineer Saleem Ullah as its main participants. All the speakers termed the Nizam-e-Adl, as being enforced in Swat, a guarantee to the solidarity of Pakistan. Ehsan Wyne, whose party spearheaded the move to introduce this system, said it was vital for the national security in the present circumstances. Under this system Shariat courts are established. These courts are very much in line with customs of the local people. Hence, they are not against Islam, Wyne said. He said that Pakistan Army and intelligence agencies have completely failed to maintain peace in the area so, there was no way out to regulate justice except through the accord made possible by ANP which signed an agreement with Maulana Sufi Mohammad for peace in Sawat. While, defending his party, he said that ANP is a secular party that respects other religions and sects with their devotees free to carry on with their own beliefs. According to him, this agreement is not something new. It is an amended version of Nizam-e-Adl Shariat and Regulation ordinance enforced earlier during Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif regimes. Raja Riaz said the decision that finds resonance with the general public can never be failed. We should trust our army and agencies as their duties are to combat against the evil designs of enemy countries, so peace pact will be surely successful. He appreciated the role played by the Parliament and added it was in the interest of province and the state. Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi said that now the ball is in the court of Maulana Sufi Mohammad. He should honour his commitment, as any failure of the pact will be dangerous for the whole nation. Allama Zubair Ahmad Zahir said that this accord is a challenge for those who did not want a stable Pakistan. He criticised MQM and said that they are opposing Islam in the name of Islam. Manzoor Gillani said, We are under the yoke of America which resulted in the talibanization in the country. He said that General Musharraf supported the US more than wanted. He said the Talibans had burnt the schools instead of condemning feudalism, nepotism and poverty. Establishing so called Qazi courts would not bring any change in already existing judicial system. Congratulating ANP for the achievement, Saleem Ullah said the new regulations would go a long way in establishing peace in the area. He said that America considered the Nizam-e-Adal a threat to its presence in Swat. He appreciated the President and the Parliament for approving this ordinance.
