ISLAMABAD (APP) - Ambassador of United States to Pakistan, Anne W Patterson said on Thursday that a high-powered delegation of Pakistani entrepreneurs will be visiting US from April 22-24, which will help promote joint ventures and explore investment opportunities besides improving the soft image of Pakistan and change its perception at the international level. She was addressing the participants of a business reception hosted by her in their honour here at the Embassy premises. Chairman Board of Investment, Saleem Mandviwalla and Commercial Consular Will Centre also spoke on the occasion. The Pakistani entrepreneurs will also be meeting U.S business leaders to discuss possible joint ventures and equity participation in upcoming projects in Pakistan. Anne W Patterson said that investors wanted to help people of Pakistan in health, education and market access of their products in US markets. She expressed the hope that visit of the delegation would help promote joint ventures and enhance bilateral trade relations besides building the image of Pakistan. She also stressed the need for private sector participation in trade and investment areas to further enhance investment opportunities and joint ventures between the two countries. Speaking on the occasion Saleem Mandviwalla thanked the ambassador for organizing the visit of entrepreneurs trip to United States and hoped this would help enhance bilateral trade and investment opportunities and interaction with US entrepreneurs. He added the government has established Special Economic Zones for Chinese investors and this project would be completed this year. Chairman BOI said that similar SEZs would also established for other countries as well for promoting trade and investment in the country. Replying to a question about Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) with United States would be finalized soon for promotion of Pak-US bilateral investments. It may be noted here that the United States is the leading trading partner of Pakistan and in 2008 the former imported goods worth US $ 3.59 billion from Pakistan and exported goods worth US $ 1.99 billion. During the period Pakistans leading exports to the US were in apparel, bedwear and towel products categories. The single largest US export to Pakistan comprised civilian aircraft and related parts. Presently, the United States is the single largest market for Pakistani exports amounting for more than 25 percent of Pakistani exports, whereas US Exports to Pakistan account for approximately 7 percent of the countrys imports.
