WASHINGTON (Online) - US Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen on Thursday said President Asif Zardari had not taken him into confidence before signing the Nizam-i-Adl Regulation. In an interview with an American TV channel, Mullen said presently there is no threat to Pakistan from Taliban, however, he said suicide bombers and militants are moving closer to Islamabad. He said Pakistans political and military leadership is well aware of the threat. Mullen said he was in touch with Pakistani Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in this regard. Mullen said it would be so serious if Taliban established their safe haven in Swat. He said he time and again had assured Pakistani leadership of his full cooperation and Islamabad would not be left alone in hour of need. He reiterated the resolve that US would continue its military and economic aid to Pakistan.
