LAHORE - National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have won their matches in the 34th U-20 National Hockey Championship at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium Thursday.

According to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) spokesman, the opening match between Army and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ended in 3-3 draw. SSGC crushed Punjab B 9-1 in the second match while NBP outclassed Pakistan Railways 4-0 in the last match.

Army took lead in the seventh minute through a field goal by Shan Ali. Saeedullah of KP leveled the score in the 18th minute. Ehsan Riaz added another for Army in the 44th minute. KP bounced back and scored two back-to-back goals in the last quart. Zahidullah successfully converted a penalty corner in the 51st minute and Amjad Rehan scored a field goal in the 53rd minute to strengthen their team’s position. Army’s Shan Ali’s successful conversion on a penalty corner in the 55th minute saved his team from a defeat.

Three goals by Ilyas Ahmed and two by Adeel Latif guided SSGC to humiliate Punjab in the second match. Ilyas completed his hat-trick on field goals in the 14th, 20th and 40th minutes respectively. Adeel struck field goals in the 7th and 49th minutes. Sawan Bin Qamer (21st), M Rizwan (25th), Shahnaz (35th) and Zeeshan (58th min) scored one goal each. Punjab captain Usman Farooq scored only goal for his team in the 15th minute.

Railways gave some resistance in the first quart and defended their fort for a considerable time until Shan Irshad of NBP scored a field goal in the 15th minute. Railways continued their resistance in the second quart which remained goalles. In the third quart, NBP’s Atiq scored a goal in the 31st minute which was leveled by Mubashar Ali in the 45th minute and in the 52nd minute, Amir Ali scored the fourth goal for the bankers. Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Sports Fayaz Ali Bhurt was the chief guest during the last match.
