For years Pakistan has been playing ‘yankee doodle’ to the whim of foreign interest and has become deeply embroiled in fighting someone else’s war. Pakistan is already in a state of war and without the support of friends, cannot single handedly cleaning the mess left behind by them. It is not in a position to partake in the military escapades and proxy wars of rich countries. Miraculously, the Parliament decided to listen to the people’ voice and adopt neutrality towards the Yemeni conflict which has been criticized by the UAE’s minister of state for foreign affairs, Anwar Gargash.
Whether the Gulf’s interest, in the military coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen, is to protect their monarchies or some other camouflaged issue this should be of no concern to us. How does criticizing and threatening Pakistan’s decision to stay neutral make it a contradictory and ambiguous choice? The government is applauded for holding its ground and for once putting the interests of the Pakistani people ahead of others.
