LAHORE - Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that the nations who are not spending money on education and research and development cannot survive respectfully in the world.
He was addressing orientation ceremony organized at Institute of Business and Information Technology (IBIT) here on Thursday. Incharge Director IBIT Dr Amir Sarwar, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the United States’ total GDP was around 17 trillion and it spent 2 to 3 percent i e 340 to 510 billion dollars on research and development per year while Pakistan had a GDP of around 250 billion dollars only and was spending only 0.1 percent on research and development per year.
He said that education sector had been ignored by the rulers and the government allocated only 2 percent of GDP on education while the average spending of the world on education was 5 percent. The VC said that IBIT teachers have good linguistic skills. He advised the students to adopt reading habits and read books other than their subjects.
