Police arrested an impersonator for blackmailing senior police officials by posing himself as a major serving in spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), a police source disclosed.

DSP City Maqsud Ahmed said this while addressing a press conference at Sialkot Cantt police station. He added that the accused was identified as Mehtab Ahmed, a resident of Sialkot city’s congested Nehal Chand Street locality. He had a printing shop namely Mehtab Printers in Sialkot and had been blackmailing the senior police officials under his fake name Major Ali Barlas.

He added that the accused has confessed that he had been impersonating as a serving major of ISI in Sialkot for the last five consecutive years. The accused had made several telephone calls to senior police officials including SPs, DSPs and police inspectors in Sialkot and collected money from some of them by using the influence of Inter Services Intelligence.

The accused has also told the names of his victims (the senior police officials) in this regard. The accused subsequently used to call some officials of another intelligence agency, as accused posed himself as a major of other spy agency (ISI).

Over a suspicion, the accused was called in a local hotel for further conversation. During this, the spy agency and police officials found him dubious and arrested him. Sialkot Cantt police have registered a case against him and sent him behind bars.
