ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday rejected the claim made by Deputy Minister of Economy of Panama Ivan Zarak that he had met Pakistan’s Finance Minister in Washington.

Zarak, in foreign news channel’s talk, had claimed that he met Dar in Washington.

However, Dar categorically rejected the statement, terming it baseless, unfounded and extremely surprising. “How come Ivan Zarak meet the finance minister when the latter has not even left Pakistan in the last many weeks. Dar is very much in Pakistan, and performing his day to day duties, which are being covered by the media as well,” stated an official handout released by the Ministry of Finance.

The spokesman for the ministry added the finance minister had cancelled his visit to Washington D.C, where he was scheduled to participate in the WB/IMF Spring Meetings from 14-17 April, 2016.

Pakistan’s Finance Ministry is being represented in World Bank/ IMF Spring Meetings, currently in progress, by Federal Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood Khan due to cancellation of Dar’s visit. “The matter is being taken up with the foreign news channel (CNN) for wrong reporting,” the spokesman added.
