LHC moved against ECP for hiding assets of politicians

LAHORE - A writ petition yesterday was filed in the Lahore High Court seeking action against Election Commission of Pakistan for removing details about assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other politicians from its website.
Shabbir Islamil, a local resident, had filed the petition stating that ECP had removed details of assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and other parliamentarians from its website.
He said this act of the ECP was unlawful act and it had no authority to remove the details.
The petitioner submitted the ECP, by doing so, had taken a step to cover the alleged corruption of the rulers. He stated the ECP had also deprived the citizens from important information which was the Constitutional right of every citizen.
He prayed to the court to order the ECP to display details of assets of these above said politicians on its website.
