The provincial government issued an official obituary on the said demise of Bilquis Edhi. The government issued a notification which reads as “Government of Sindh shares the grief and expresses its heartfelt condolences on the said demise of the most active philanthropist and Co-Chair of Edhi Foundation, Mrs Bilquis Ban Edhi widow of Renowned Philanthropist Mr Abdul Sattar Edhi (Late).”
The Sindh government issued another notification to announce one day’s mourning throughout the province of Sindh.
The Chief Minister visited Edhi Centre when the body of Bilquis Edhi was shifted there and offered condolences with her son Faisal Edhi.
Sindh Chief Minister paying rich tribute to Bilquis Edhi said that her services for humanity would be written in golden words on the annals of history.
She played a motherly role in nurturing unwanted babies, shelterless women and children. “May Allah rest her soul in eternal peace,” he prayed for her.
Meanwhile,the funeral prayer of Bilquis Bano Edhi, social activist and widow of philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, was offered at Memon Mosque on Karachi’s M.A Jinnah Road.
The great social worker and philanthropist Bilquis Bano Edhi was laid to rest here at the Mewa Shah Graveyard on Saturday.
Edhi’s funeral was attended by large number of people. She was given a guard of honour by a Sindh police contingent.
Strict security arrangements were made for the funeral which was attended by leaders of various political parties and other famous personalities.
Bilquis was 74 years old and spent more than six decades of her life serving humanity. She was a professional nurse heading the Bilquis Edhi Foundation. She married Abdul Sattar Edhi in April 1966. She is survived by four children, Faisal, Kubra, Zeenat and Almas. Bilquis Edhi’s charity saved thousands of unwanted babies by placing cradles (jhoolas) at Edhi Homes and centers across the country.
