KARACHI - Combating the increasing pollution in the country two supreme decisions have been taken a few days back by the Federal, Provincial and City governments to make the country green and pollution free. The first decision is to observe 18th August as National Tree Plantation Day across the country and the second decision is that the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) would provide unlimited number of saplings free of cost to the common citizens for planting anywhere, The Nation has learnt on Sunday. Federal Govt have issued directives to all four provincial governments to observe National Tree Plantation Day on 18 August, across the country, while the same directions were issued to all districts governments by the provincial governments in this regard. The concerned officials told that maximum saplings and plants of various kinds would be planted across the country on the same day. The Forest Departments of the Local Governments will play an important role, as the Provincial Government has directed the concerned department to complete the preparation in this regard for planting maximum trees on 18 August. The source also disclosed that Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah would inaugurate the National Tree Plantation Day campaign by planting a sapling at CM House. The purpose of this campaign is to make the country green, beautiful and pollution free, sources maintained. Meanwhile, according to CDGKs city council decision, the Forest Department would start providing at least 22 different types of plants and saplings to common citizens free of cost. The decision to this effect of CDGK, was part of Mission Green Karachi a campaign, which was kicked off on 12 September 2006, on the directives of naib city nazim Nasreen Jalil. The chairman agriculture committee of CDGK, Arif Bhatti, when contacted told the Nation that there was no limit and condition to provide the plants free of cost to the citizens. He further said that the only condition is that the saplings and plants would be planted either inside the house or out side the house, parks, play grounds, streets, schools and colleges. He further said that citizens would also ensure that they would maintain the saplings and plants, adding that the staffers of forest department would check the site before planting the trees. Bhatti said that free saplings and plants are being providing from five nurseries of the forest department located in Shah Faisal colony, Model colony, Gaddap, and two in Bashir Memon Goth. Saeed Ahmed Pirani said that 22 different types of trees would be provided to the interested citizens and institutions with the verification of area UC nazim and photocopy of identity card and few other details would be obtained from the applicants before giving them trees. He said that Gul Moor, Neglum, Neem, Pepal, Amaltas, Badam and other trees would be provided to the common citizens from five nurseries of forest department according to the directives of CDGK.
