ISLAMABAD (APP) - The office of Wafaqi Mohtasib is organizing a two-day Policy Dialogue Forum on Ensuring good governance through strengthening administrative justice and accountability here on August 18-19. Main theme of the seminar will be the significance of administrative justice and accountability, which are regarded as cornerstones of good governance casting their impacts upon the common man. The seminar will have three sessions on August 18 and four interactive sessions on the following day. Chairman of Senate Farooq H. Naek will inaugurate the policy dialogue forum while Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira would chair the plenary session. Javed Jabbar, former information minister, will deliver the keynote address in the session. Among other notable personalities to attend different sessions of the seminar will include Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, leader of the Opposition in NA, Minister for Science and Technology Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Danyal Aziz, Mir Hasil Bazinjo, Mustafa Kamal City Nazim Karachi, Syed Adil Gilnai Head of Transparency International in Pakistan. The speakers will explain the other vital related issues like ensuring transparency through improving access to information, developing coordination mechanisms between oversight institutions and service delivery bodies and strengthening of accountability mechanisms to improve service delivery. Administrative justice and accountability are the two aspects related to the determination of legal rights and issues arising out from standards of service delivery. Besides, formal, legal systems of courts of law, a number of institutions also exist at the federal and provincial levels to perform defined roles and deliver on specific legal mandates providing an easy access to general public to voice their concerns over certain issues to be resolved in a fair and transparent manner. These institutes including Ombudsman institutions help strengthen accountability of the state institutions for delivery of quality services and ensure that public services are responsive to citizenss needs. In 2007, Wafaqi Mohtasib took the initiative of organizing a national consultative conference which was hailed by the stakeholders. Upon their recommendations, the office of the Wafaqi Mohtasib established a Policy Dialogue Forum. with the aims to serve as a platform for interaction between the relevant government and non-government stakeholders on various accountability, transparency and integrity issues in the country. The initiative forms part of the Responsive Mechanisms for Grievance Redress component (implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme of the Strengthening Integrity and Governance through Support to National Systems programme. It is expected that the Forum will continue to serve as ideal platform to meet the set objectives.
