LAHORE - The payment for free textbooks, distributed in government schools last year, is still being disbursed among some influential publishers. But, majority of the cheques, issued by the officials of Punjab Textbook Board (PTB), are still withheld at the provincial Finance Department, which has stopped the payments owing to some unknown reasons. Interestingly, the tenders for the next year have already been floated while the arrears are yet to be paid. The owners and workers of several publishing houses had time and again recorded their protests and they will stage another demonstration outside the Secretariat. Talking to Nawa-i-Waqt, PTB Chairman Dr Sohail Masood said there was some hindrance in payment to some publishers, which was not a big issue. I am in talks with the Punjab Secretary Finance and the pending payments will also be released soon, he maintained.
