Anti-dengue drive in full swing



LAHORE: The Anti-Dengue Squads of Environment Protection Department have sealed Manwan Police Station Car Warehouse and three tyre recling units and got registered cases against them after detecting larvae in the premises. On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, EPD Secretary Anwar Rasheed have constituted nine special squads to eliminate the breeding sources in the city. The anti-dengue squads under the supervision of Secretary Anwar Rahseed inspected Manwan Police Station Maal Khana where dozens of cars were parked in open sky and larvae was detected inside the cars. MPA Kh Imran Nazir directed the squad to register FIR against the Manawan police officials and directed the TMA Wahga Town to remove the larvae and water.
They also inspected three tyre recycling units and got registered cases against their owners on presence of larvae in the premises.  Talking to media on this occasion, Secretary Environment Anwar Rasheed said that Punjab government has been utilizing all its resources to defeat the dengue and every department and citizens as well have to come forward to fight against this menace.  
Awareness
The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is conducting campaigns in the most dengue-hit areas to aware every individual of society about measures against dengue epidemic. The LWMC has also set up a camp at Butt Chowk in Tajpura locality in collaboration with the Turkish company Albayrak.
They briefed the people on dengue havoc and precautionary measures needed to be taken to combat it. Local resident Mr Hanif expressed his deep concern over the bad habit of waste disposal manners of locals and said that that are thankful to LWMC that cleared this plot despite their non-cooperative behavior.
The Albayrak ensured special cleanliness arrangements on this occasion by mechanically sweeping and washing roads and streets in the locality. Another activity would be conducted in Harbans Pura vicinity on Saturday August 17 (today). Students expressed great passion for this cause by participating actively. The participants distributed awareness literature among passersby, shopkeepers and households going door to door. Assistant managers Mehdi Shah, Albayrak representatives, Asad Ahmed, Umair Khan, Tariq Shah, Ms Sonia, Umair Rana, M Hammad, teams of mobilisers and a large number of local residents participated in the activity. –Staff Reporter
