KARACHI - The Sindh government on Friday fixed official wheat prices at Rs3,450 for 100kg for flour mills and chakies.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah while chairing a meeting of food department gave approval of official release price of the wheat for the flour mills and small grind mills (chakies).

CM directed the government authorities to take steps to supply the wheat and flour on low prices to the consumers. CM further directed the authorities to take steps to control on inflation of food items. CM also directed the officials of the food department to take steps to save the wheat in rains.

Minister food Jam Mehtab Dahar told the meeting that wheat has been stocked in the godowns, where no possibility of occurring losses to the commodity in the ongoing rains.

On this occasion, secretary food of Sindh government Naseer Jamali told the meeting that a quantity of 30,000 metric tons of wheat stocks would be released to floor mills in running month of August.

Chief Minister said the government’s move had encouraged more and more farmers to go for cultivation of sugarcane, cotton and wheat, which according to him, were also posting robust growths.

He said in the past the government had to import wheat for lack of local production, and, therefore, the President Zardari envisaged a greater plan for self-sufficiency in the wheat crops.
