PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkwa government will construct three small dams in district Karak and Nowshera, official sources said yesterday.
The approved dams included construction of Latambar dam in Karak district and Mairoobi and Jaroba dams in Nowshera, sources said.
Several project are under construction including Naran dam with power generation capacity of 188MW in district Manshera, construction of power stations of Gorband at Shangla district, Nand Bahar at Batagram, Mojigram Shagoor, Astar Rabooni, Arkari Gol at Chitral will be completed soon, sources added.
"These projects have been included in the ADP for fiscal year 2015-16. It is expected that work on them would commence soon", they maintained
Several other projects like Ranolia Kohistan, Machi Mardan and Dararkhwar Swat with power generation capacity of 55.6MW power projects would be completed by December 2015, they said. Work on Machi Mardan with 2.6MW and Ranolia Kohistan 17MW has been completed and are ready for execution whereas Swat Dararkhwar with 36MW capacity would start production by the end of this year, sources added.
"In future, the PTI government has planned to construct small power stations at Shringal Dir Upper, Patrak Barikot in Swat and Segokatch having the power generation capacity of 171MW," sources said. For irrigation sector, the officials said the provincial government has allocated Rs 6.87billion for 202 projects in upcoming fiscal year with 45 per cent.
Moreover work on improvement in water pounds at Sheikh Canal and Civil Katha, Khesgi irrigation lift scheme, rehabilitation and repair of 460 kilometres roads on banks of canals in the province would start soon, officials said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led provincial government has taken these initiatives to generate inexpensive electricity and ensure irrigation water for uplift of agriculture and industrial sectors.
The completion of these projects would not only increase per acre agriculture production but will provide raw material to industries, official sources said.
