Police nail alleged blasphemer

The district police on Sunday said they are investigating blasphemy allegations against a man for using derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Chak 116/ML, tehsil Kota Addu.
DPO Awais Ahmed Malik said that “we have, however, arrested the alleged blasphemer Muavia Hasnain.” The Daira Din Panah police SHO confirmed they have registered a case against the alleged blasphemer under section 295-A PPC.
The case against Hasnain was brought by Bashir Ahmed Anjum, a member of Sunni Tehreek.
The district police officer informed that a group of clerics made announcement through loudspeakers of a mosque, calling the residents that someone committed an act of blasphemy and used objectionable remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Hundreds of people took to the streets and blocked Kot Addu-Layyah Road by putting hurdles and burning tyres Saturday evening. At which the administration held a meeting with local religious scholars to control the situation. The police also took the alleged blasphemer into custody to placate the angry mob.
