KARACHI - At least four terrorists of a banned outfit were arrested in a raid of Special Investigation Unit and intelligence agencies in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday.

At a press conference, SIU Senior Superintendent of Police Farooq Awan said that an action was launched against the terrorists near Disco Bakery in which as many as four militants were detained. He said that the suspects, identified as Azhar Hussain, Abdul Adeel, Kashif Ali and Syed Alim, allegedly have contacts with Abu Sufyan group that killed Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada.

The SSP said that they were also involved in kidnapping for ransom, extortion, murders by adorning police uniform and street crimes. The criminals used to purchase arms and bombs from the money got through robbery and other criminal activities, he added.

The senior police officer told that the arrested terrorists dodged the people by showing themselves as advertisers on social websites. It was also learnt that the terrorists were planning to attack or kidnap a high official.

Separately, the Law Enforcement Agencies carried out a raid in Fire Station Colony of Sohrab Goth area of Karachi and arrested as many as five persons.

Sources said that LEA’s have taken action against illegal construction in the Fire Station Colony of Sohrab Goth area and five persons were taken into custody and all five belonged to different fire stations while investigation also started with the arrested persons.

The sources further said that the arrested person Zakir is stated to be officer of central fire office; Nasir and Farhatullah belonged to Sohrab Goth fire station while Mairaj belonged to Hawke’s Bay fire station and Nazim is deputed to Civic Centre. The source also clarified that fire officer of Sohrab Goth fire station was not taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the law enforcing agencies claimed to have apprehended eight suspected persons including auto-thieves during search operations in different areas in Karachi. On tip-off, the law enforcing agencies raided in Lyari area and apprehended five suspects. The suspects were shifted to unknown location for investigation. The suspects’ identity could not be ascertained immediately. 

Meanwhile, the police raided at a hideout in Bilal Colony in New Karachi and rounded up three alleged auto-thieves. The police also recovered stolen motorcycles from the suspects’ possession.

In a road accident, a teenage girl died while her brother was injured when an over speeding car hit a motorcycle. Rescue sources said that an over speeding car knocked down a bike carrying brother and sister near Landhi Rice Godown Karachi. The sister died on the spot in the accident while his brother was critically wounded. The car driver sped from the scene of the accident. The body and injured were moved to hospital for medico-legal formalities. The police after registering a case against car driver at large started efforts for his arrest.
