LHC judge refuses to hear Hanif Abbasi’s appeal

Rawalpindi - A judge of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Thursday has refused to hear the appeal of Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, the former MNA of PML-N convicted and awarded life imprisonment in Ephedrine smuggling case.

The hearing in the appeal was adjourned for an indefinite period after Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf refused to become part of a division bench to take up the appeal.

PML-N stalwart Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, through his lawyer Tanvir Iqbal Khan, had filed the appeal challenging life imprisonment awarded by Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) Court in Ephedrine smuggling case.

LHC Rawalpindi Bench Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf said he had appeared in Supreme Court against convicted Muhammad Hanif Abbasi as lawyer and it was not possible for him ethically and morally to hear appeal of the convict.

After refusal of judge, Justice Ibad Ur Rehman Lodhi has deferred hearing in the appeal for an indefinite period.

CNS Court Special Sardar Muhammad Akram had convicted and awarded life imprisonment to Muhammad Hanif Abbasi besides imposing Rs 1 million as fine against him in Ephedrine smuggling case.
