ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed Monday administered the oath of office to Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, judge of Sindh High Court, as the judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Gulzar administered the oath at the Supreme Court building Islamabad. The judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Attorney General for Pakistan, senior lawyers, Law Officers and officers of Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan attended the ceremony. Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted the proceedings of oath taking ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh as an ad-hoc judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan requiring him to attend the sittings of the Supreme Court for a period of one year from the date he makes an oath of his office. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed was to administer the oath to Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh today but in a later development the CJP cancelled the oath taking as SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh again refused to attend sittings of the Supreme Court as an ad-hoc judge, saying he is humbled by the offer of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), but his answer is similar as earlier. The SHC chief justice had through his August 5 letter to the JCP dispelled an impression that he had ever accorded his consent to become an ad-hoc judge of the Supreme Court. However, he had said he would have no objection if he was appointed or elevated to the Supreme Court as a permanent judge.
