LAHORE - Various parts of the country including the City received scattered rains on Tuesday with experts predicting the wet spell to continue during the next 2-3 days. The rains in the plains and snowfall over the hills caused considerable decrease in the mercury level, heralding the proper setting of winter season. Lahore received 01 mm rain. In Lahore, the rains increased chill in the weather, especially during night. The rains, though light, added to the woes and miseries of the motorists and pedestrians. Slippery conditions of roads caused frequent traffic jams on a number of important City roads till evening. Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of the City. On Tuesday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 15 degree Celsius and 06 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 86 per cent which decreased to 63 per cent in the evening. According to the experts, Mondays' westerly wave over Afghanistan on Tuesday lies over northeast Afghanistan and adjoining areas of the country. Local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather for the City during the next 24 hours. Met office has forecast scattered rains for NWFP, Northern Areas, Kashmir and North Punjab during the next 24 hours. Snowfall is also expected over the hilly areas. On Tuesday, Panjgur received 35 mm rain, Gwadar 09 mm, Pasni 07 mm, Hyderabad and Dalbadin 02 mm each, Jiwani 01 mm while Sialkot, Quetta and Pattan received traces of rain. Condolence The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain and other judges have expressed sorrow and grief over the sad demise of late Muhammad Javed Niazi, assistant LHC. Through a statement issued by the LHC registrar Parvaiz Ali Chawla on Tuesday, the judges said that Niazi, who died on December 14, was conscientious, hardworking and dedicated official who exhibited commendable devotion to his duty. They said his death deprived this court of an able and competent official, adding that they extended their deepest sympathies to the members of the bereaved family.
