SBTE question papers with new pattern

KARACHI - Sindh Board of Technical Education (SBTE) is taking measures to adopt new pattern of question papers for the annual examinations 2009, following the new education policies of the government. Nearly three working groups, constituted by Chairman SBTE Prof Muhammad Saeed Siddiqui, are making their recommendations for improvement of quality of technical education, and help to design model question papers and question bank. Talking to The Nation SBTE Controller Examinations Prof Sirajul Islam Bukhari said that before adopting the model papers the SBTE would hold a training workshop for notable teachers from across the Sindh. He said, "The model papers will be divided into three segments including objective, short answers and descriptive. The objective side will be comprised on 20 per cent marks, short answer on 30 per cent and descriptive side on 50 per cent marks." Bukhari said that the board conducted several examinations including Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE), Diploma in Commerce (DCom), Diploma in Business Administration (DBA), Technical School Certificate (TSC), Diploma in Fine Arts, Diploma in Computer Graphics Design, Diploma in Computer and Business Management, Diploma in Information Technology and other programmes. It is pertinent to mention here that Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has already announced the board is taking some technical changes, both in the examination system as well as in its curriculum. According to new pattern, question paper would contain 50 per cent objective pattern questions, 30 per cent short answer types and rest of the 20 per cent is for easy type. "The board is an autonomous body which is mainly responsible to develop, streamline and regulate the programme of studies for Technical Education and Vocational Training (TEVT) institutions operating both in public and private sector. As many as 200 technical institutions of the province are affiliated with the board, while around 100 institutions exist only in the metropolis," he said. Bukhari said that abut 14,000 candidates from across the province enrolled only in DAE, while 6000 candidates got enrolled in DBA, DCom and TSC examinations. "The annual examinations 2009 will commence from May 2009. The new pattern of question papers will definitely help in enhancing the quality and superiority of technical education in the province," he added.
