KARACHI - Umair Amin and Afaq Rahim with their exhilarating batting pulled their team Federal Area Leopards from the brink to sensational seven wickets victory over Balochistan Bears in the RBS Pentangualr One-day Cup here Tuesday at National stadium. The two shared an unbeaten 251 runs fourth wicket hammering a century each after the Federal Area team had collapsed to three down for 25 to carry their team to 276 for three with 4.4 overs to spare in reply to Balochistan Bears total of 275 all out in 49.3. Young Fahad Iqbal, a new batting sensation, struck 68. Umar Amin hit unbeaten 123 in 121 balls hitting fifteen fours and Afaq Rahim remained not out 129 made in 122 balls hitting 15 fours and a six. The two shared man-of-the-match award in the presence of more known international stars Shoaib Akhtar and Sohail Tanvir. Shoaib Akhtar took four for 57, two of which were tail enders. But his performance was overshadowed by the batting blitz from Umar Amin and Afaq Rahim who saved the team from suffering its first possible defeat in the five team championship. The talk on the ground was not fitness of Shoaib Akhtar but the batting of the two lesser known players who rose to the occasion at the crucial moments to steer their team to unbelievable win which at one stage looked difficult. Sohail Tanvir took three important wickets for 37 runs. He removed openers Shoaib Khan and Hammad Tariq cheaply. Balochistan Bears, sent into bat after Shoaib Akhtar had beaten Misbahul Haq on the toss, suffered an early collapse but Fahad Iqbal and Misbahul Haq resurrected their team's innings with superb batting performances. They added 114 runs for the fourth wicket to lift the team's total. Fahad Iqbal batted more sedately for his 68 made in 96 balls than skipper Misbahul Haq who got 63 in 64 balls hitting four fours and two sixes. Kamran Hussain contributed 56 in 34 balls as Balochistan Bears reached comfortable 275 all out. However, when Federal Areas Leopards collapsed to three down for 25 in sixty over, Balochistan team looked cruising to comfortable win but suddenly Umar Amin and Afaq Rahim turned the tables with their batting.
