SHEIKHUPURA - The main accused who was involved in kidnapping-for-ransom of a seven-year-old schoolchild was shot dead by his own accomplices when the police was on the way to Chak Shahpur in the remit of Saddr Police for the arrest of other accused involved in the abduction.

According to details, a police team along with main abductor Abdul Ghaffar, a resident of Sukkur, Sindh province, to Chak Shahpur for the arrest of other accused on his identification. However, when the police personnel reached near the village some five accused, riding a car opened fire on the police vehicle in a bid to get their accomplice released. The police retaliated against the culprits with firing but they succeeded in fleeing under the cover of darkness. However, a bullet hit the abductor in police custody. He was rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to his wounds. It is to be noted here that the accused was arrested following hectic efforts.

Meanwhile, the Sheikhupura Police widen the scope of investigation following the incident and launched operation against the criminals to nab the runaway culprits who were involved in the heinous crimes, said DPO Rana Abdul Jabbar. He appealed to the general public to cooperate with the police to root out crime from the district.
