ISLAMABAD  - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed the authorities concerned to increase the supply of electricity to industrial units to bridge the energy supply gap. 

"In addition to it, the industries should also get gas supply for two days a week," he said while chairing a meeting to review the energy situation in the country.

Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, and Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi attended the meeting. The Prime Minister was given a detailed briefing on the energy situation in the country.

The meeting also discussed the implementation status of Jamshoro coal-based power plant, Diamer Bhasha and Dasu dams, and Tarbella extension project.

The PM directed to enhance the pace of work on these projects.

In order to overcome the energy shortage and provide cheap energy to the masses, the Prime Minister said more solar power projects should be explored.

He also directed the Ministry of Water and Power to provide projected demand and supply position of electricity from 2014-18 in order to adequately address the growing demand of power.

The Prime Minister also directed that he should be apprised of the implementation status of energy projects on regular basis.

Monitoring adds: A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was held here on Monday, according to a private TV channel report.

Addressing the meeting, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan criticised the party MPs and Ministers.

He said that the Ministers should review their efficiency before the Opposition parties start criticising the government.

Nisar said that the masses gave mandate to PML-N to resolve their problems and the party Parliamentarians should conduct self analysis to avoid public wrath. He said that the Ministers should review efficiency of their portfolios.

Giving interesting comments on the absence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from the House, Nisar said he asked the PM that he felt for the first time during 30 years that an Assembly seemed to work without any patron as the Ministers often do not attend the session in absence of the PM from the House.

MEETING ON SECURITY

Online adds: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has summoned the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security on Tuesday.

All the chiefs of armed forces and cabinet members of the committee will attend the meeting to give approval to the draft of national security policy.

Talks with Taliban and other national issues pertaining to security will come under discussion during the meeting.

Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan would give a detailed briefing on the National Security policy.

According to Interior ministry the policy is based on three parts. One part of which will be kept classified.
