Eleven persons including eight of a same family, two minors and three women were killed and 10 other injured in different incidents here on Monday.

According to details, in Gujranwala, seven persons of a same family including two minor children and three women were killed in head-on collision between a Suzuki van and an oil-tanker near Khan Bagh Village due to thick fog Monday morning.

The accident occurred when Afzal, a resident of Ladheywala Warriach who had returned from Abu Dhabi a day ago, was going to Faisalabad in a Suzuki van along with his wife Arshad Bibi, son 10-year-old Hassan, sister-in-law Meraj Bibi and other family members to enquire after the health of a relative. When they reached near village Khan Bagh, a speeding oil-tanker, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into the Suzuki van due to foggy condition. Resultantly, driver Nazir, Afzal, his wife Arshad Bibi, son Hassan, sister-in-law Meraj Bibi, Sajida Bibi were died on the spot while minor girl Bisma died while being shifted to hospital. Upon information, the rescue teams reached the spot and pulled out the dead bodies and injured farom the Suzuki van by cutting the body of the van. The dead bodies were handed over to the heirs while injured are being treated at DHQ Hospital. The oil-tanker driver succeeded in escaping from the scene after the accident while the Ladheywala Police have registered a case.

In Attock, a motorcyclist namely Ismail, son of Hukamdad was on the way back village Langar when a speeding oil-tanker (6855) hit his bike near Jand, killing him on the spot. In another accident, a bus (SGS 6855) overturned near railway crossing on Jand-Chhab Road. Resultantly eight passengers sustained injuries and were shifted to THQ Hospital Jand. One of the injured who was in precarious condition was later referred to Rawalpindi. Reportedly, the bus driver was busy talking on his cellphone due to which the bus went out of his control and overturned.

Similarly in Sangla Hill, a minor was killed in crossfire over a minor dispute here, the police said. Arslan, 13, son of Muhammad Farooq, a resident of Chak 62, Sahiwal district was killed when some people opened indiscriminate fire on Safdarabad Road in the remit of City Police.

A case was registered against Imran, Ali Raza and Mushtaq on the statement of Shehnaz Akhter, mother of the deceased.

Meanwhile, in Toba Tek Singh, a brick-kiln worker was shot dead by unknown killer in Gojra on Monday. Salim Masih of Chak 155/GB was on the way to kiln for duty when he reached near Chak 178/GB on his bicycle, armed assailant(s) lying in ambush in bushes fired, killing him on the spot. The police have registered a case against unidentified accused.
