A man threw acid on a lady anti-polio worker said to be his former wife, while performing duty here in Raheem Shah area of Jahanian the other day.
As per details, Shaista, an anti-polio worker, a resident of Rahim Shah was performing vaccination Aftab threw acid on her. Resultantly she sustained critical burns and was rushed to hospital. According to her family, they are poor people and can afford any legal action against the accused.
On the other hand, the EDO Health termed the incident as a result of a dispute between the woman and her ex-husband and it had nothing to do with anti-polio campaign. “It was their family dispute and the person who allegedly threw acid on Shaista is her former husband,” he elaborated.
Meanwhile, the EDO health informed that on the first day of three-day anti-polio campaign in the district, health department’s teams administered anti-polio drops to 161,000 children. He was chairing a meeting attended by DMO Sohaib Iqbal, DO Health Dr Yousaf Sumra, WHO representative Dr Yasir Nawaz, Dr Hassan Paracha and medical officers from 28 union councils of the district. The EDO informed that the health department teams had achieved 90 percent of the target, adding that there were 5,612 cases of unavailability and four cases of refusal were reported in the area.
