LAHORE - A 15-year-old mentally handicapped girl was gang-raped in Bhati Gate, police sources said on Tuesday. The resident of Jhang district, who was found abandoned alongside a road, was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police investigators say they believe some motorcyclists abducted the girl from Data Darbar area and took her to a deserted house located near Lorry Adda where they gang-raped the mentally handicapped girl.

Police sources said that the victim had arrived in Lahore a couple of days ago to attend the annual Urs of Ali Hajveri (RA). The police have registered a case against unidentified men and are investigating.

According to sources, the police investigators have detained at least ten suspects in connection with the gruesome gang-rape incident.

MAN GUNNED DOWN: A 60-year-old man was gunned down when he was calling for prayer in a mosque in Qila Gujjar Singh area on early Tuesday.

Malik Muhammad Ali was calling for prayer on the loudspeaker in Jamia Masjid Subhania Rizwiya, located close to the Lahore Police Lines, when an unidentified gunman entered the mosque and opened straight fire. Muhammad Ali sustained three bullets in the head and died on the spot. The police later reached the spot and moved the body to the morgue for autopsy.

Police investigators said that the deceased had old enmity with a local group and there was a strong possibility that he was targeted by his rivals. Further investigation was underway.
