LAHORE - Hero of the day Zia-ul-Haq (5-9) bowled Pakistan A to 214-run triumph over Kenya in the third of the five-match one-day series here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.
This crushing victory also helped Pakistan A seal the series. The third match saw several changes in the team with shinning players like Sharjeel Khan, M Talha, Imran Khan and Raza Hasan were given rest and young blood was inducted in order to provide them a chance to exhibit their prowess. Those brought in were Zia, Iftikhar Ahmed, Zafar Gohar and Shahzad Azam. For Kenya, Hamza Malik and Eugene Ochieng came in for Jimmy Kamande and Jadhavji Bhimji.
Put into bat first, Pakistan A were off to flying start as they punished the Kenyan bowlers at their will and posted a decent total of 265-5 on the board in 45 overs. Babar Azam was the player, who made his presence felt with his blistering batting and hammered 117-ball 97 runs hitting 12 boundaries and a six, while skipper Fawad Alam slammed unbeaten 84 off 61 balls with the help of 10 fours.
Kenya’s reply was as weak as water as they were sent packing in almost no time as their first five wickets – four picked up by Zia and one by Shehzad Alam – fell for just seven runs in five overs. Man of the match Zia then once again showed his class and completed his five-wicket haul in his seventh over when he removed Nehemiah Odhiambo. With this wicket, Kenya were reduced to 13-6.
Kenya’s captain Shem Ngoche (11) and Lucas Oluoch (18) were the only two players who reached double figures, as the visitors were dismissed for 51 runs in 22 overs. Apart from Zia and Alam, Shahzaib Ahmed claimed three wickets, while all-rounder Zafar Gohar bagged one scalp.
