AJ remands Baitullah's aides to police custody

KARACHI (PPI) - Administrative Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court Karachi, Justice Salman Ansari of Sindh High Court Monday remanded six accused allegedly belonging to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan militant group to police custody till February 28, 2009 in cases pertaining to attack on SP Farooq Awan, police encounter & illicit arms. Police said accused Habibullah Mehsud, Farooq Mehsood, Naek Islam Mehsud, Javed alias Punjabi, Rehman Mehsud & Attaullah Mehsud arrested from their militant hideout in Kunwari Colony, Manghopir, Karachi, early morning on February 14, 2009 were involved in attacks on Nato convoys, kidnapping some law enforcement personnel, including FC troops, kidnapping for ransom & bank robberies to generate funds for TTP. A case (FIR37/2009) US 302, 353, 324, 427, 34 PPC R/W Section 7 Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 lodged at PS AVCC, Sohrab Goth, Karachi. Investigation Officer submitted accused were involved in encounter with police during anti pro-Taliban crackdown in Sohrab Goth, Karachi, on January 15, 2009. During encounter, militants took hostage SP Farooq Awan In-charge Anti-Violent Crime Cell with two intelligence officers, who surrounded Mohmand Building at Al-Asif Square, where members of some banned religious outfits were staying. They opened fire & killed HC Fayyaz Ahmed, PC Akhtar Munir and injured eight others officials - SSP Anti-Violent Crime Cell Farooq Awan, ASI Ajmair Khan, ASI Ashfaq Khattak, ASI Muzzafar Hussain, ASI Rashid Khan, ASI Mumtaz Khan, ASI Musaddir Iqbal, ASI Sarwar. IO submitted they were wanted in different cases registered by CID police. These include FIR 64/2009 US 353, 324, 34, 186 R/W Section 4/5 Explosives Act. Five cases US 13-D Arms Ordinance & US 6/9 Control of Narcotic Substances Act. IO produced accused before and submitted their 13 accomplices including Misbah Uddin, Jan alias Baba, Shaheen, Gul Khan, Inam, Hafeez, Azam, Allauddin, Meharban, Nooran Gul, Abdul Hameed, Qasim and Ameer. He prayed for their remand to police custody till February 30, 2009. Justice Salman Ansari remanded them to police till February 28, 2009.
