Electricity rates would likely go up by Rs1.20 per unit from March due to rise in generation cost, a private TV reported. According to sources of Ministry of Water and Power, the loan on Pepco has been reached Rs91billion due to non-payment on part of power sector to PSO, resultantly, the oil refineries have slashed furnace oil supply by 60percent. Thermal Power Plants are using diesel owing to shortage of furnace oil, which resulted into rise in cost of power generation. It merits to mention that power tariff is up 45 percent since October last till January 2010.
