Khanewal citizens’ outcry goes in vain

KHANEWAL - Traders, civil society, religious and educational circles and especially government employees have demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Transport Minister, commissioner Multan division, Multan RT secretary, and DCO Khanewal Rashid Mehmood to take action against overcharging and overloading.
They said notice should be taken against the overcharging and overloading by transporters in wagons and also illegal wagon stands situated in the mid of the city.
Locals while taking to the newsman have alleged that vehicle owners with the support of wagon stand owners of Khanewal are overcharging and also overloading about 16 to 21 passengers in a van instead of 14 passengers. But district administration as well as RT secretary Multan have closed their eyes intentionally to give them shelter.
They also alleged that in Khanewal, people are running illegal wagon stands and mini goods’ wagon stands in several areas of the city including Ayub Road, Midow Wala Chowk, New Sabzi Mandi Road, RCA Chowk, corner of block no 12, near Government Girls College and various other prominent palaces.
They also alleged that this practice is due to the support of district government officers/official and causing accidents on daily basis.
They demanded the chief minister to take serious action in this regard and launch a government transport system from Khanewal to Multan to provide better and cheaper transport facilities to the residents of the area. This action will not only provide relief to the masses but also eliminate the monopoly of the private wagon stand owners.
DCO Khanewal Rashid Mehmood told the newsmen that this matter is in his notice and we are taking steps against these elements involved in overcharging, overloading and illegal wagon stands.
